About “'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus” · 关于这首圣诗

Louisa M. R. Stead (1850–1917), an English-born missionary who later served in South Africa, wrote “’Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus” in 1882, and William J. Kirkpatrick set it to music. The usual account says she wrote it after her husband drowned while trying to rescue a boy from the sea, and that she was left to raise her daughter alone. The word “just” opens most lines, so that trust is reduced to its simplest acts: taking Christ at His word and resting on His promise.
