About “My Country, ’Tis of Thee” · 关于这首圣诗
塞缪尔·弗朗西斯·史密斯（1808–1895）是浸信会牧师，1831年他还是安多弗神学院的学生，罗威尔·梅森给了他几本德文歌集，请他为儿童合唱团写新歌词，他便写了《我的国家，我为你歌唱》。1831年7月4日首次在波士顿公园街教堂演唱。它与英国《天佑吾王》是同一首曲调，据说史密斯选这曲子时并没有认出来。最后一节转为祈祷：“我们先辈的神，自由的创造者。”
Samuel Francis Smith (1808–1895), a Baptist minister, wrote “My Country, ’Tis of Thee” in 1831 while a student at Andover Theological Seminary, after Lowell Mason gave him German songbooks and asked for new words for his children’s choir. It was first sung on 4 July 1831 at Park Street Church in Boston. It is sung to the same melody as the British “God Save the King”, which Smith is said not to have recognised when he chose it. The last stanza turns to prayer, “Our fathers’ God, to thee, author of liberty”.
