About “In the Garden” · 关于这首圣诗

Charles Austin Miles (1868–1946), a pharmacist who became an editor and publisher of gospel songs in Philadelphia, wrote the words and music of “In the Garden” in 1912. In his own account, he wrote it in a darkened photographic room after reading John 20, picturing Mary Magdalene coming to the tomb on Easter morning and hearing Jesus call her name. The hymn is a quiet one: a walk in a garden at dawn, and a private conversation with Christ.
