About “His Eye Is on the Sparrow” · 关于这首圣诗

Civilla Durfee Martin (1866–1948), a Canadian-born writer, wrote “His Eye Is on the Sparrow” in 1905, and the popular gospel composer Charles H. Gabriel set it to music. The usual account says she wrote it after visiting a couple in New York State, the wife bedridden and the husband in a wheelchair, who both spoke of their cheerful trust in God. The hymn draws on Jesus’ words in Matthew 10:29–31 that not a sparrow falls without the Father’s knowledge.
