Fanny Crosby (1820–1915) wrote “Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, Our Blessèd Redeemer” in 1869, and Chester G. Allen composed the tune. Each stanza names a different role of Christ: the shepherd who carries his children, the Rock of salvation, and the coming king. The shepherd image comes from Isaiah 40:11, “He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm”, and the last stanza looks to Christ as “Prophet, and Priest, and King”.
