About “The Haven of Rest” · 关于这首圣诗

“The Haven of Rest” was written in 1890 by Henry Lake Gilmour (1836–1920), an American hymn writer, with music by George D. Moore. The hymn pictures life as a voyage and salvation as a harbour. Its anchor image echoes Hebrews 6:19, where hope is “an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast”, and the fourth stanza recalls John, the beloved disciple, leaning on Jesus’ breast at the Last Supper.
