Serum 2 Compatibility FAQ: Everything You Need to Know
The Most Asked Question
With the release of Xfer Serum 2, the synth world has been buzzing. The number one question we receive is: "Can I use Serum presets in Serum 2?"
The short answer is YES. Serum 2 is designed with backward compatibility in mind, allowing your entire library of Serum 1 (.fxp) presets to load perfectly into the new engine.
Is it 100% Identical?
While presets load, Serum 2 features an improved audio engine. Most users report that older presets sound "clearer" or "wider" due to the updated anti-aliasing algorithms. However, if you need the exact 1:1 "vibe" of Serum 1 for a legacy project, you can toggle "Serum 1 Legacy Mode" in the global settings.
Serum 2 vs Serum 1
- Presets: Fully compatible.
- Wavetables: Fully compatible; new Serum 2 wavetables utilize the Warp 2.0 engine.
- Host: Serum 2 runs as a separate plugin ID in most DAWs, meaning you can have both versions installed simultaneously.
💡 Pro Tip: Backup Your Library
Before migrating, always backup your /Presets/User folder. Serum 2 may update the
metadata of your files, making them unreadable by older versions of Serum if you decide to roll
back.
